Why is there an additional fee on my credit card statement? (International Transaction Fee)

If you see a small percentage tacked on top of your regular FreshBooks subscription rate, you might be a victim of VISA’s international transaction fee. Sometimes this is labelled as such, but in some cases it isn’t even broken out, it is just added on to the FreshBooks monthly charge. Now keep in mind that we charge all customers in US funds so this has nothing to do with currency conversion.

An example of this would be if you monthly subscription rate is $19/mo USD and you see a charge for $19.57. Typically, the international transaction fee ranges from 1-3% of the total cost.

Please note that we, FreshBooks, are not collecting these fees from you. It is indeed VISA that is collecting these fees. Unfortunately there is no way to prevent this charge from appearing on your credit card unless you deal with your credit card company directly.

Do you have an affiliate or referral program?

Yes, we have a referral program!  For every account that you refer to FreshBooks, you earn 25% of your referral’s fee for the first year they are a paying FreshBooks user.  Pretty sweet, eh?

Getting Started

Referring is a snap. First you need to navigate to your FreshBooks account referral page:

  1. Login to your FreshBooks account as the Administrator (you need to create a FreshBooks system if you have not already).
  2. Click on your Refer FreshBooks tab, found under your Home tab.

You will be taken to your “View Referrals” page where a unique affiliate link awaits you. Copy and paste that link onto your web page or into an email you can send to your friends, then sit back and watch the cash roll in. You can also use one of our pre-made banners by clicking the “Get Banners” link.

“What if someone I referred did not go through the referral process?”

If you referred a friend to FreshBooks and they didn’t sign up through your referral link or dedicated sign-up page, you can still have them as a referral, meaning you can earn income from their subscription! Just contact us (or give us a call toll free 1-866-303-6061) with your FreshBooks subdomain (the ‘xxx’ in xxx.freshbooks.com) and your friend’s subdomain and we’ll get it worked out.

Receiving Your Referral Income

You will receive a cheque from FreshBooks after you have accumulated $100 worth of referral income. Payouts from FreshBooks from referral links are made twice a year (January 31st and July 31st) providing your own FreshBooks system is active and in good standing.

How do I upgrade, downgrade, or cancel my account?

Before you try upgrading, downgrading or canceling your account, ensure that you are logged in as the Administrator of the account.

New FreshBooks Users

If you are on our FREE moped plan with Freshbooks and want to upgrade your account:

  1. Click on your Home tab.
  2. Click on your Upgrade tab.
  3. Click on one of the pricing plan Signup buttons.

Existing FreshBooks Users

Upgrading individual components of your FreshBooks account is easy. You can choose any extras you need by:

  1. Click on your Home tab.
  2. Click on your Upgrade tab.

You will be taken to a page where you can upgrade individual limits in your FreshBooks account (i.e. clients, staff, auto-bills, etc.).

Upgrading or Downgrading Your Account to Another Package

You can easily upgrade or downgrade your account by contacting us with a message that says “Upgrading Account” or “Downgrading Account” and indicate the package that you want to upgrade or downgrade to.

Cancelling an Account

While we are sad to see you go, we know that FreshBooks is not for everyone. We have made the process of canceling your account as hassle-free as possible:

  1. Click on your My Account link at the top right of your FreshBooks account.
  2. Click on the cancel your account link at the bottom of the page.

You will be taken to a page where you can leave a comment and cancel your account. Easy!

How much does FreshBooks cost?

If you have three clients or less, FreshBooks is FREE to use forever! There is no catch and there is no need to share your credit card information. With your FREE FreshBooks account, you can send an unlimited number of invoices and create an unlimited number of projects. Forever.

If you have more than three clients or want to allow team members to have access to your FreshBooks account, we have a variety of pricing options to suit your needs:

Custom Packages

If you still cannot find the right package for your needs, we can help you customize your package. All you need to do is send us a message with the type of package you want. Be sure to include the following information:

  1. How many clients and staff members would you need?
  2. What is the projected growth for your FreshBooks account?
  3. What is the nature of your business?

What do I do if my account is past due or suspended?

Your account is flagged as past-due when a credit card payment for your account has been declined.  This can happen for a variety of reasons such as your credit card expiring, your credit card company closing your account (due to lost card or theft), or lack of funds.

Past-Due Accounts

When you log into your account, you’ll see a warning on the very top of your FreshBooks account encouraging you to update your credit card.

We allow a grace period of two months before your account goes from “past-due” status to “suspended” status.

Suspended Accounts

When your account is suspended, the next time you try to log in you will be presented with this screen:

You will need to update your credit card in order to use your account again.

If you are having trouble entering your credit card information or don’t think that you need to update your credit card info, give us a call as soon as possible toll free at 1-866-303-6061 and we’ll get it sorted out.

How do I update my credit card?

You can easily update your credit card information by following these steps:

  1. Login to your FreshBooks account as the Administrator.
  2. In the sub-navigation, click on the Billing Information link.
  3. Click on the Update Billing Info link to the right of your current fee.
