Online Accounting

We are a small architectural firm.  Currently we utilize Quickbooks and Excel for our accounting and invoicing purposes.  We have recently decided to use Freshbooks to accomplish our client related invoicing and expenses.  Now, we are trying to decide whether to stay offline with Quickbooks or utilize another for our accounting side of things.  Right now, it looks like QBs Online and Less Accounting are the two viable online options.  I really don't care for QB Online, although the plus version has all the features we need (bill pay, online banking, expense tracking).  Less Accounting has some of these features, but not all.

How are others handling the accounting side, other than offline Quickbooks/Quicken? Any other options for online accounting?   Thanks.

Re: Online Accounting

Tarch,

There are plenty of options out there -

Less Accounting, Clarity Accounting, Saasu, ePeachtree, Cashbook, IAC-EZ (our new service) etc.

Each software has different things to 'meet' your needs, so you have to evaluate which one is a best fit. Some of these applications offer things that others don't. With accounting it is very important to weigh what is most important to you and the key features that you need.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Heather

Thanks for the response.  I really like your new service IAC-EZ.  It seems to have all the features in gobootstrap.com that I liked (Freshbooks integration, easy and clean) and all the features it was missing.  I am having my current bookeeper look at the service.  My only hesitation is the "newness" of the software and its viability.  I have made the mistake in the past jumping on board startup Web 2.0 services, only to be left standing months later.  Are you guys funded?  How much focus is there on the software, since I see you are running a full-time accounting office?  Are there plans to promote the software, ie Techcrunch, Lifehacker, etc.?  You seem to have a really well developed service, I just want to be sure before I invest my time setting everything up.

Also, are there plans for Bank Account support?

Thanks.

Re: Online Accounting

Tarch,

IAC-EZ is a service of IAC Professionals. We have been around for 8 years, so we are not going anywhere anytime soon. We have a rather large web development and maintenance team for a start up service- we have 4 in our development team and 3 on standby for our maintenance team.

There are promotional plans, but not until after beta. For any information on promotion, please visit the Buzz page and that will give you all details.

We do have plans for Bank Account Support. With Bank Account Support there are 2 components.

Phase 1 is supporting CSV importing and mapping. This is on the block for implementation in late January/Early February.

Phase 2 is bank to bank direct syncing. This will take a bit longer, as it has to be approved on a bank by bank basis (even QuickBooks does not sync with every last bank). I would be fibbing if I told you I knew 'when', because it does not depend solely on us. However, it is on our block and if and when possible we will work it in.

Good News: We won't hold your data hostage. We are working on focusing on being able to get all of your data 'out' as well as in.

Test it out a bit and let us know what you think! Any other questions - just click the support link inside the app in the upper right hand corner.

Re: Online Accounting

Thanks Heather.  I look forward to further trialing the software, and the upcoming bank syncing.  It does seem to be a very well thought out service.

Anyone else??

Right now I am looking at IACEZ, Clarity, Less and Xero.

Heather:  I am really enjoying your software, IACEZ.  When import/export and bank register come online, I think you'll have the features I need.

Re: Online Accounting

Xero just launched their global version.  A little more expensive, $29, but very comprehensive.  They are just lacking Freshbooks integration.

Re: Online Accounting

Hi Tarch. Rod from Xero here.  We're looking at doing the integration.

We have a bit more research to do but we'll let you know.  If there is overwhelming demand we'll push it up the list.

Freshbook users, let us know here ....

Re: Online Accounting

Any updated news from anyone on their current accounting system?  We have yet to jump from desktop Quickbooks, which we hate, to an online solution.  I've tried them all:  Xero, Clarity Accounting, IAC-EZ, Outright and Quickbooks Online.  They all lack something...but would probably be better than my current setup. We're just hesitant changing.  Xero seems great, but the lack of Freshbooks integration seems to be a difficult one to chew.  Clarity, IAC-EZ and Outright look to be moving in the right direction, but still seem to be lacking some important features.  And Quickbooks Online is slow and as convoluted as the desktop version.  So we are left on the sidelines, waiting for the perfect match with our Freshbook's goodness.  I would love to hear anyone else's story.  Thanks.
