Time for a contest.
Write a poem on billing;
win a free t-shirt.
If I can come up with that rockin' haiku in less than thirty seconds, I have full faith you can all do much, much better than me. So write me a poem on billing, and post it in the topic below. My favourite ones get FreshBooks t-shirts.
Anybody's welcome to participate, so feel free to forward this along to your fellow poets, too! Registration's free, of course.
Make sure your entries are in by Tuesday, April 29th at 5 PM ET.
Pro tip: your poem does not need to be haiku. I am known to be partial to limericks. (Iambic heptameter will earn bonus points *and* street cred.)

There was a company called SubHub
Whose billing software made them blub blub
Then one day they found Freshbooks
Which proved it had more than just looks
So they signed up online and joined the club
OR . . .
Boring they all say
Irksome, it takes all day!
Loath to do it everyone
Little do they know that it can be fun!
Invoices and estimates galore
Not more paper falling on the floor!
Get me an accountant I am about to CRACK!

I just got an email asking me to write a poem.
I am a busy guy so I need to get going.
But then I found out I couldn't win since I work at FreshBooks
I decided to stop rhyming.

It's time to bill my clients,
but I'm not so good at finance.
I go to Freshbooks, and oh how it looks,
I've mastered the billing science!

I've got so many projects to bill!
Thinking about it makes me quiet ill.
But with Freshbooks on my side,
I've got no reason to hide,
I'll just click, click, click, click and go chill.

Oh how I love my Freshbooks.
When it comes to billing they cook.
The tracking's a breeze and I'm working with ease!
Maybe now I'll go work on my looks.
Ok, seriously, I have to get back to work. It's been fun! ![]()

Working is needed
Invoicing is tiresome
Getting paid is cool
Who said Haiku had to rhyme.
I once knew a lady named banker
Who slept while the ship lay at anchor
She awoke in dismay
When she heard the mates say
"Now hoist up the top sheet and spank her!"
Ok - so it's not billing - but it's fun and her name was banker after all ![]()

The life of a contract programmer
is far from what you'd think
We'd toil all day for another's dream
and it drives us to the brink
For a lucky few, in early days
the riches seamed too good
Then a bubble burst and we got it worst
our future dreams went mute
Honestly, my time is not free
and billing is such a chore
Invoices weren't paid, and I didn't get laid
until the paycheck was at the door
Now I ride a wave, just like yesterday
my client base grows a new
The only change is I'm Freshbook paid
and I get some more then you.

ok...Iambic Heptameter it is...
I was bidding on a job, my proposal wrote and sent
Kept all expenses in Freshbooks, to track all that was spent
I sent a humble estimate, which they viewed on the net
Decided in a hurry 'cause their deadline's soon, I'll bet
My customer accepted, said the price was A-Okay
Converted estimate to invoice; sent it on its way
They logged in, paid, and remarked, "We're impressed with how this works"
and became a Freshbooks customer, sharing all the perks

Our business once had no outlooks,
Our software was created by crooks,
No help with invoices,
We thought we had no choices,
But now it works perfect with freshbooks.
It's true we found that billing and taking credit cards couldn't be easier. ![]()

There was a wee bank account ol' and dusty,
Alas, neither payee nor payer were trusty.
When Freshened with vigor,
its ledgers did quiver,
See, not only the Irish are lucky.

Spending endless nights on your books
Hardly a way to grow a business
Hiring accountants and managers
That's not a modern private practice.
Those onsite accountants naught
but deadweight to sink small ships
on the way to war with behemoths
like IBM, HP and Microsoft.
Yet leave not the books untended,
as we grow. Creative accounting
a danger to more than Enron,
private and business funds blended.
Employees multiply like rabbits
and incoming invoices. We need
order to stop the cash bleed,
for hard work to bring benefits.
Excel, Filemaker, Quicken:
long the list of failed solutions.
Bits of paper, at our wits end,
unbilled hours, staggering tension.
Multiple sites, overlapping currencies,
external contractors, globalisation:
modern accounting with broadband
that's what a new business needs!
In Toronto, a small team struggled
with numbers, creative endeavour,
to help us bill. Freshbooks' fervour
sees all our accounting resolved.

Grey sky!
Billing cry!
My head is going to fry!
I think I'm going to die!
Bright day!
Billing, no way!
I'm at the beach, yay!
I use freshbooks, what can I say?![]()

ps. I changed mine 4/23. This was fun. ![]()

Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
Clients never used to pay me;
But with Freshbooks, they do.

There was a young man named Mike McD
Who had a growing young web consultancy
He screwed up in Word
He thought “How Absurd!”
So he launched FreshBooks to set us all free!

Like a vision through the foggy night....you arose.
A behemoth afraid of no one.
Ugly, scary, hairy.
Full of pus and nastiness.
I knew you would be tough.
Probably a wee bit rough.
But I take no guff.
And no inhaling when I puff.
Billings.
I will slay you.
I will play you.
I will obey you.
Not.
FreshBooks came in that night.
FreshBooks brought light to my life.
FreshBooks showed me the way.
FreshBooks slayed the beast.
Billings.
Heads I win.
Tails you lose.
FreshBooks: 1
Billings: 0
The End.

Ahhh.. self employment.. what great fun
If only the accounting didn't have to get done
Luckily, for me (and other canucks),
There's them brainy folks from what's now FreshBooks!

My partners and I were just chilling
Freshbooks had caught up our billing
Our debtors caught fright
Receiving invoices so tight
And parted their money most willing
