Hello,
I'm just trying out Freshbooks and it looks good, but I have one problem. I have clients all over the World and I need to invoice differerent clients in different currencies. I can't see any way to specifiy the currency at a per-invoice level, only to set one currrency at the user level for all invoices. Am I missing something?
Thanks for the help.
Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Welcome to the forum. Sadly, FreshBooks does not support multiple currencies in the same system at the same time. This is a common request and is something we may address in the future.
As a work-around, some of our clients create multiple FreshBooks accounts to manage each currency.
Examples: FreshBooks, FreshBooksUS, FreshBooksUK
If you do choose to use this work around, we also allow these multiple account holders to move their unused client and staff limits across all systems so they only need to upgrade a single account.

Thanks Daniel,
But this is not really a sensible workaround IMHO... the whole point of moving to online invoicing is to simplify matters and to put all invoices in one place. I guess I'll keep looking for a provider that can do multi-currency!

Hi Mark,
Thanks for following up. I agree, that solution could be better and its something we are looking in to. If you created an account, you should be automatically receiving our newsletter. We update our service every one to two months so you should receive notification when this feature is available. Good luck in your search Mark.

wouldn't it be easy though - to choose a currency for a customer
then on revenue
USD
client 1
client 2
EURO
client 1
client 2
or choose a base currency and then use daily xe.com rates to do reporting in?
my accountant does all my main books - but i'm looking for a system to organise my invoicing and collection of revenues - and keep records which i give to accountant - so the exchange rates isn't quite so neccessary and can be reported seperately by currency.

Yes, all reported would be separated by currency, so really it would simply be a more integrated way of working with separate currencies in a single FreshBooks system. No conversions would actually be taking place inside the account.
Otherwise that is essentially how the system would work, with clients simply divided among the different currencies. A simple idea doesn't make for a simple implementation though! It's absolutely on our radar, we're simply not ready to make such a change yet. You've definitely got the concept down, though.

I am sure you do get asked this a lot, but do you anticipate a timeframe on when you think this will be done?

I live in Ireland and near the border. I have both Euro and Pounds Sterling clients and this would surely be handy.
I know most Irish and British companies will also have both types of currency used as well and having one place to manage them both (as well as only one account payment to freshbooks) would be appreciated.
I could even consider paying more for one multiple currency account rather than two completely separate accounts.
Just my 2 cents.

exstatic, sorry, I don't know how we missed your reply! No timeframe, sorry. We'd tell you if we had one ourselves. ![]()
cgehrke, welcome to the forums! We definitely know this is a huge feature for folks. It's coming. It's just a massive undertaking that can't happen right away. If I could click my heels and have it in there though, I promise you I would totally do that.

Speaking of currencies, we are evaluating your software, and found out that the short-form for Pakistan Rupees is wrong. In your system it shows as Rp, whilst in actuality it is Rs - is this something you can put into your Currency Symbols soon?

Hey there babushka, welcome to the forums!
The rupee symbol, ₨, is actually in there; if you choose PKR in the list of currencies, the correct currency symbol will (or at least should) be selected for you automatically. Rp is the symbol for the Indonesian rupiah.
Hope that helps!

Hi Aaron:
Thanks for your prompt reply. I was just wondering if the "Rs" symbol could be added in? Right now - I'm using "none" as Rp is confusing for client here.

Hey babushka99,
We do have the ₨ (Rs) symbol, encoded as the HTML entity ₨ (Unicode code point U+20A8). It should be in the symbol list, as the second entry above Rp. If you don't see it in your browser, it might be that you browser is using a font that doesn't have the symbol.
It should also be automatically selected when you change your currency code to PKR.
If it's not showing up at all, can you let us know what browser and OS you're using? Perhaps we can figure out how to get it to display properly.
Thanks!

TaavI:
I don't think you are understanding what I am trying to convey. For Pakistan Rupee ₨ or Rp - both are NOT the correct symbol. Its Rs only and in your Symbols list - Rs is not available.
The Rupee symbol ₨ / Rp is for Indonesian Rupee and NOT a generic Rupee symbol.

Oh, yikes! Sorry for the confusion.
When we put together the full list of currencies, there were apparently some faulty sources (e.g. http://www.xe.com/symbols.php) claiming otherwise.
I've opened a ticket to fix this up, and let you know when that's done.
Thanks for letting us know!

I guess another way as a work around, is just to bill in your local currency.. and in the notes put he amount converted into their own currency and request client to pay that way. Just convert on XE.com. What ever works for you.
By the way Aaron, what happens if i change the default currency to another currency? Will this stuff up the current invoices?

It will indeed affect all the current invoices and numbers — it's a purely cosmetic setting really, none of your numbers throughout FreshBooks are in any particular currency.
(Oh and welcome to the forums!)

It would be fantastic to have more than one currency - can you add another vote for this feature, thanks.

With yesterday's release of 4.6, we now have "Rs." available in the currency symbol list, and it should be automatically selected when you choose the PKR currency symbol. Thanks for your patience!

One more vote for this.
I've just run into the problem that I've issued a bunch of invoices to US clients after enabling Paypal support. Of course Paypal was asking for Canadian dollars (and not enough!). Fortunately I caught it in time and was able to turn off integrated Paypal billing and add instructions in the terms box.
Personally I need to be able to issue invoices in US$, € and CAD$.
In fairness to Freshbooks, multiple currency accounting is the worst nightmare one can ever possibly imagine as the rates change from institution and from day to day.
I would like to keep all the billing discreet (I don't need/want a bunch of wrong conversions) but having to log in to three projects and keep multiple databases of clients is also not really on. I'd like multiple billing profiles within a single account.
For the moment I guess integrated payment gateway is out of the question except for Canadian clients.
For what it's worth, Paypal supports multiple currencies in a single account very easily. Very convenient. No need to convert and lose on the exchange.
