Not happy with this product at all. No support for Pakistan or the Pakistani ruppee and had countless issues when trying to add a bank that outright does not link to.
Even when I cancelled my trial I didn't even get a confirmation email! >:|
Great idea, terrible execution.
1. Outright-Bank sync is atrociously bad.
2. Freshbooks-Outright sync is inconsistent, but works OK except for one major point:
There is no way to correlate Bank Deposits with client payments, making this integration useless.
3. Outright cannot generate a decent P&L statement (fortunately Freshbooks can)
4. Outright cannot split income or payments into separate categories.
Outright, you are fired. Looking for alternatives.
I've been a user of Outright since 2008, and until about a month or so ago I couldn't praise it enough. I've even written glowing reviews of it on my small business blog and recommended it several times to fellow entrepreneurs.
Unfortunately, recent updates and a "new version" have made it completely useless to me. Its Freshbooks sync doesn't always work -- I have yet to see a paid invoice marked as such on Outright, even though it's been almost a month since it was paid on Freshbooks -- and customer support can take days to respond, if at all. They made the egregious mistake of overhauling the dashboard and syncing over the Christmas holidays, i.e., the end of the 2010 fiscal and tax year, which means that I'm scrambling to try and back up my data to ensure that everything is accurate before I do my tax returns. Management makes these massive updates and changes with no forewarning at all to users, so you simply wake up one morning to find some of your data gone and your dashboard unfamiliar and awkward. The forums are full of folks unhappy with all these sudden and completely unnecessary changes, although no one within Outright seems to be responding to any of them.
It used to be the smoothest, easiest and most user-friendly bookkeeping application for solo entrepreneurs and sole proprietors. I've given it several opportunities to respond to some of my complaints, but customer support is slow, if not downright unresponsive. Indeed, as of this afternoon, clicking on the "Outright Updates" link on the Support page just gives me an error message.
As soon as I find a better option (Hell, at this point, I'd settle for wrestling with Quickbooks, as long as it worked), I'm leaving Outright. It's too bad because I've been using it for so long, but I no longer have the patience to deal with its unreliability. This is my company's bookkeeping we're talking about. That's too important to mess with.
Here is the issue...this is a free app and to expect QB type functionality might be a stretch. I would advise anyone who is "doing their own thing" is that at tax time, you will find the true limitations. No data export (even just to a csv file) is a huge gap. True tax reporting, drilldowns or other common features are lacking.
My advice, need a simple way to keep track of your stuff? This is fine but you'll be looking elsewhere soon like I now am...regrettably.
So far it is as advertised. I am not sure what tax info you miss as a Scorp or LLC like some people are saying. But that is why you have an accountant look at stuff if your taxes are a bit more complex. To me it is great at seeing at a glance in vs out. That is all i need as the SMB owner. My accountant/account department can use whatever they please. I can give them access to outright to view the transactions. Perhaps not as flexible/functional as inDinero, but the base functionality you get for free is good. And they are supposed to be bringing premium services online soon.
While the integration with Freshbooks is as advertised, if you're looking for true accounting, then I'd look somewhere else. I signed up for this app convinced that it would be a simple replacement for my Quickbooks software. Danger, Will Robinson! It is not, and when the time comes to do your taxes, you're sunk. Yes, I understand that it will do "some things" for the sole proprietor set up, but who uses that anymore with all the incentives to go Sub-S, C-Corp, or LLC??? If you doing those and lawfully taking all the deductions available to you, Outright isn't for you.
Good Luck!
I've been using outright for a year and am pretty much finished with it. There's still no tax support for Canadian users and the reporting options really aren't up to par.
I think that what has essentially happened is that my business has outgrown the app.
Don't particularly blame Outright as it is a free app - but I'll be switching to Clarity instead and paying the monthly fees.
I'm with Jack. I don't like the new version and many of my accounts won't update. It's more frustrating than it should be.
Until today I thoroughly enjoyed using Outright with Freshbooks. Unfortunately, they've just put out a new version of Outright that is, in my opinion, a huge step backward. Navigation is harder, charting looks like it was done by someone in high school, and some of the information I used to rely on just doesn't appear to be there. I guess you get what you pay for.
Can't say enough good things about Outright and the tight integration! Outright takes the "accountingness" of Freshbooks to the next level and gives you everything you need, and will even let you eFile taxes! It's a perfect marriage!
I'm using this integration for two different brands. It's great because both freshbooks account can sync to the same Outright account!
Really good product. Outright and Freshbooks have become essential for my business.
The only reason I give it 4 stars is because I wish it could automatically rename transactions like in Mint. Consider this review to have 4.5 stars.
Setup was a breeze, and the integration just works.
thank you thank you thank you!
This is the service that I've been looking for. I have been able to be so much more productive now that most of my accouting is done on Outright. My invoices flows in and so do my expenses. My taxes are calculated for me...what else do you want! This is an excellent service and compliment to Freshbooks.
This is the first time in 5 years that managing my finances has been painless. Thank you outright for all of the automation!
Makes bookkeeping pain free! Freshbooks, Shoeboxed, and Outright are the winning combination!
Works very well with freshbooks & the interface is nice too.
awesome
This is my first software program up until this was printing off everything for tax paperwork. Do see the State needs to be up and running - hope that is ready by December at least.
I have been looking at Outright for a while now, but they are really dragging their feet on creating a worthwhile product. Still no help on state taxes and the ofx/qfx import (link is in the faq but not visible in settings as you'd expect) feature has still not been fixed. It's a shame, because otherwise they have a good idea and it's free. But I have to give them a 1-star rating for their half-ass site.
The integration is a bit wonky. All of the data comes over, but the expenses all show up as "unknown". This is of course, more of a Freshbooks problem than an Outright one, because Freshbooks doesn't have a recipient field on their expense entry. HOWEVER, if you go and edit all of the expenses in Outright to show who the payee was (which you have to do or your Outright reports like 1099 will be useless) it works great... until the next time it syncs with Freshbooks and resets them all to "Unknown" again.
You also have to make sure your categories on Freshbooks and Outright are exactly the same or it gets confused.
I love that the sync happens in the background regardless of if I initiate it or not. The combination of Freshbooks and Outright is perfect for any small consulting firm!
amazingly flawless integration with freshbooks ... thanks !
It's great, but there's one big problem: I use Freshbooks and so do the contractors that work for me. When they submit an invoice to me, it appears within Freshbooks. Freshbooks then allows me to convert their invoice into an expense. That expense then gets migrated over to Outright, but it comes through with "Unknown" in the "Paid To" field rather than the name of the Contractor. I'd be very happy if this bug were fixed.
I'd also love to see more Totals and Subtotals within Outright - for example, the list of outstanding Freshbooks invoices that appears at the top of the Income tab would be more useful if Outright simply totaled the amount of outstanding invoices.
Curt
Love the integration, especially how it tracks outstanding invoices so I don't have to enter them in!
I hate looking at numbers. I hate estimating and paying taxes. This helps take the edge off! Thank you... thank you... thank you!!!!!!!
Pretty neat
Works flawlessly and the tax reminders are a god send.
[Received From/Paid To] and [Categories] under the Expenses tab do not sync and show up as "Unknown" or "Not Sure" sending up a flag to contact my accountant. Well, I am my accountant. Everything else seems to be a Godsend.
The integration with outright is great. It makes it a lot easier to manage my business.
Freshbooks and Outright blend seamlessly together which helps my book keeping tremendously. I am definitely a fan it both have helped me keep a financial handle on my business.
There's nothing negative to say. It just works.
Using Outright along side with Freshbooks gives me a GREAT overview of where my business currently stands! I must say I love the Profit Bar on the top right of the page (love seeing it go up!)
Great product and combination I am starting up my photography business, well let say making it official. This is making it easy I love it.
Great Product!
It's such a useful combination between FreshBooks, Shoeboxed, and Outright. If you're a small business that's still using Quickbooks or Quicken, you're wasting so much time.
I love this service. I was looking for an easy way to do my books and get an estimate of my taxes
due every quarter and this was the only one that did it.
Very simple to get started, price is definitely right!!
I like the idea, just wish we could look at things in accrual-accounting versus cash-based accounting only. I want to know how much I have billed, not just collected.
Nice integration, simple and user friendly. Could always use some additional print or pdf capabiliies or a larger comparision for month to month charts, maybe up to 6 months to view at once.
Overall, a nice compliment to freshbooks!
It's fantastic! And it works seamlessly. Thanks for the integration!
I can't get it to work. I've cut/paste the exact code from Freshbooks and it just says that it is updating my freshbook account but nothing ever happens.
Very well done, works without any manual effort. What integration should be.
The integration between Freshbooks and Outright.com is accurate and fast. The two services fit hand in glove and have saved me a tremendous amount of time.
This is a great start, but I've run into some rough edges. They are easily worked around, but they've still got some room to grow. There is nothing else out there (that I know of), so this is the best we've got right now. Plus you can't beat free.
Fanatically awesome! Makes my life ten times easier
Awesome. Freshbooks + Outright = Entrepreneurial Nirvana
I've been very pleased with the integration between outright and freshbooks. There was some buggery at first but it seems to have been worked out. It's nice to be able to see my financial information integrated into the site. Plus, it provides me with one less reason to use quickbooks!
Simple to setup and automated--do not have to push any buttons one day latency is OK. Those are two big pluses. If there was a filter capability I would give it 5 stars but I could see not many people needing one.
The Freshbooks integration is flawless and awesome. Period.
